بخشی از متن:The effects of two plant volatile compounds (VOCs), safranal and tulipalin A were investigated using the protoplast
method with digital image analysis, which was developed to investigate allelopathic activities of plants at
the cellular level in a 50 μL liquid medium. Both VOCs showed inhibition on lettuce protoplasts growth at all
three stages, i.e., the cell wall formation stage, the cell division stage, and the yellow colour accumulation
stage. Among the three stages of protoplast growth, differences of inhibition patternswere observed. Inhibitions
at the cellwall formation stagewere stronger than those at the latter two stages in both VOCs. Tulipalin A showed
higher inhibitory activity (total inhibition at 100 μM) than that of safranal (44% inhibition at 1 mM) at cell division
stage. They were also compared with the direct exposuremethod in an enclosed vial using germinated lettuce
seedlings, which was developed to investigate allelopathic activities of VOCs at plant level. Tulipalin A
showed less inhibitory activity on radicle growth of lettuce, than that of safranal reported. Inhibition on hypocotyl
growthwas stronger than that on radicle in both VOCs. The causes of the differences between two VOCs and two
bioassay methods, and the application of the protoplast method,were discussed for clarifying the contribution of
VOCs as allelochemicals at cellular level

through the systematic illustration of the prevailing incidents. It was affirmed that the preoccupation with
the COVID‐19 cases caused many other critical socioeconomic issues (like education, infrastructure development,
and employment) to suffer a state of negligence or be overlooked. Like other developing countries,
Nigeria could become poorer, given the increased unemployment rate and the anticipated difficulty in servicing
debt resulting from the COVID‐19 outbreak. Hence, festering challenges including poverty, limited access
to health care, low education quality, poor road networks among others, could be further entrenched. These
incidents could be detrimental to sustainable development goals (SDGs) 2030 agenda. The current crisis, therefore,
poses a threat to Nigeria’s development prospects, as it may take more time to recover, especially in the
post‐COVID‐19 era. Thus, it is critical to recognize the significance of securing strong institutional regulatory
setup and resources (including financial and material resources) needed to facilitate sustainable change in the
economy.

Potential i‐motif structures found in gene promoters are involved in positive transcriptional regulation and
sequence specific DNA binding. Herein, a 27‐mer C‐rich DNA stretch present at the promoter region of
(Glutamate Ionotropic Receptor NMDA type subunit 1) GRIN1 gene, named GRIN1c was studied to investigate
its structural status using biophysical and biochemical techniques. The gel electrophoresis, circular dichroism
spectroscopy and pH‐dependent monophasic UV‐thermal melting data revealed that GRIN1c sequence adapts a
bimolecular i‐motif structure. Two alternative structural models are suggested for the bimolecular i‐motif structure
with typical C·C+ base pairing and significant Watson‐Crick base pairing. Possibility of co‐existence of
non‐Watson‐Crick and Watson‐Crick base pairing in the formation of i‐motif expands the repertoire of various
topologies of i‐motif structures. Extensive applications of i‐motif structure in the areas of nanotechnology, analytical
and biomedical systems and many more have made it essential to explore these multistranded structures.

of the applied electrochemical parameters the elimination of carcinogenic colloidal chromium and organic
mixture was modeled in a reproducible manner, and the reached purification levels of the effluents were
acceptable for their reuse in the household. The practical usage of reported electrocoagulation design was successfully
demonstrated as an effective alternative of the current conventional method for treatment of the tanning,
domestic and artisanal industrial wastewater in Fez city, Morocco.

subject to varying definitions and discourses, partly arising from different
overarching interpretations and debates. My own work has identified at
least three strands of thought or discourses on the topic (Robinson, 2018).

breathing (SDB) diseases in children. Its high prevalence and multiple systemic complications
lead to increasing numbers of children and families affected by OSA. Timely diagnosis
and effective intervention in children with this condition is extremely important in improving
their prognosis. The major approaches in the treatment of OSA in children are to eliminate the
causes of upper airway obstruction and prevent and treat complications. Considering the specific
individual differences in children’s growth and development, as well as the diversity of
etiologies in children’s OSA, pediatric treatment strategies need to be precise, multidisciplinary,
and individualized. First-line clinical treatment consists of surgical (adenotonsillectomy)
and non-surgical therapies [including anti-inflammatory medications and non-invasive
ventilation (NIV)]. However, a considerable controversy exists concerning the indications,
treatment standards, and the evaluation of the efficacy of the aforementioned treatment
methods. In this review, reviews and assessment of literature studies and multidisciplinary
clinical experience were performed to analyze the application of each treatment and discuss
controversial issues and future research directions. We suggest that the above interventions
should be tailored to each child’s needs, comorbidities, and the availability and expertise of
the practitioner. The ideal case is when a multidisciplinary team of doctors together with
the patients and their parents, or guardians, have a thorough discussion regarding the benefits
and risks of all available treatment options and all agree on an effective treatment plan.

Purpose – This article examines how spectators describe their expectations of contemporary dance by
referring to action. Through discussing a qualitative audience study, the article argues that spectators always
have an expectation of being affected by performances they attend. This expectation can guide their interest in
attending performances of certain genres instead of other possible ones on offer. Additionally, the article points
out how spectators can actively manage their expectations in order to be affected.
Design/methodology/approach – The study is based on 21 in-depth interviews with spectators at a dance
venue, a company and a festival in Finland. The analysis of the interviews combines thematic analysis with
metaphor analysis. Employing the paradigm of enaction and the concept of affordances, this article approaches
expectations as embodied and dynamic, created in interactions between artists, producers and spectators.
Findings – The analysis shows that when speaking about their expectations of performances, spectators use
bodily and spatial metaphors. Focusing on metaphors reveals how, for the spectators, performances afford a
possibility for action that affects them. The interviewed spectators describe that contemporary dance is “not
set in its ways”, and therefore it keeps them “awake” and their thoughts do “not fossilize”. This way, they
understand contemporary dance as a genre that affords a possibility to be affected by allowing a freedom of
own interpretation and surprising experiences if they desire such.
Originality/value – Concentration on the metaphors of language offers a deeper understanding of the active
nature of spectators’ expectations. Understanding how spectators describe their expectations by referring to
action that enables the shaping of their emotions and thoughts can help the development of arts marketing and
audience engagement.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to conceptually and empirically verify themeaning of the food construct,
while adapting and validating the Meaning of Food in Life Questionnaire proposed by Arbit et al. (2017) into
Spanish and comparing groups with specific and non-specific eating patterns in relation to the meaning of food.
Design/methodology/approach – Confirmatory factor analysis and multivariate analysis involving groups
with specific and non-specific eating patterns.
Findings – Results showthat the adaptedversion of the scale retainedthe five foodmeaningfactors, although four
items fromthe original version had to be removed.Multivariate analyses of variance showthat there are significant
differences in themoral and sacred factors of foodmeaning when comparing people with specific and non-specific
eating patterns. Significant differences in themoral, sacred and social factorswere foundwhen comparing between
people with a specific diet, vegans/vegetarians and people who do not consume gluten/lactose or are on a diet.
Research limitations/implications – Differences in the meanings attributed to food can be observed
among the different ways people eat. This could have implications on ethics, sustainability and well-being by
considering the characteristics of the five factors of food meaning.
Originality/value – This study suggests that food meaning is a complex and rational process, where eating
patterns play a key role in the attribution of meaning.

Purpose – The diversity of perspectives means that one can find many factors and models of
proenvironmental behavior. However, they typically suffer from limitations and varying degrees of validity
in specific contexts, suggesting that today the prime goal should be to learn and improve the models which
have been already developed. In this study, the authors build on the model for predicting proenvironmental
behavior developed by Oreg and Katz-Gerro (2006), namely one of the most comprehensive cross-national
proenvironmental behavior models and one of the few not to be limited to either a local or single-country
context or specific proenvironmental behavior.
Design/methodology/approach – By using the statisticalmatching technique, the authorsmerged data from
two existing databases without common identifiers – the International Social Survey Program (environmental
module) and the European Social Survey (Round 5). The resulting multinational data concerning 9,710
observations enabled a replication with extensions of Oreg and Katz-Gerro’s (2006) proenvironmental behavior
model that incorporates newly added Schwartz’s theory of human values. To achieve the study’s main objective,
that is, to present improvements to the originalmodel of proenvironmental behavior, the authors used structural
equation modeling (SEM) procedures to estimate four competing models in the R program.
Findings – This study implies that Schwartz’s individually measured motivational types of values
(benevolence [BE], universalism [UN], self-direction [SD]) are predictors of people’s proenvironmental behavior,
while his conceptualization of post-materialism yields a better model fit than Inglehart’s country-level postmaterialism
scores. The results also corroborate previous findings that post-materialist values can stimulate
proenvironmental behaviors through attitudes, perceived behavioral control and intentions. The present study
reveals that proenvironmental attitudes did not change substantially in the 10-year period, even though the
world’s environmental and sustainability challenges have largely increased. Surprisingly, the mean value of
several of the perceived threat variables even decreased.
Originality/value – The authors externally validate one of themost comprehensive proenvironmental behavior
models by reproducing it using newmultinational large-sample data with nearly 10,000 observations collected 10
years later. The most significant addition to the original model introduced in the current study is the inclusion of
Schwartz’smotivational types of values, which aremeasured at the individual level, namely BE, UN and SD. The
authors also extend themodel by adding proenvironmental behaviormeasures and group the construct into three
latent variables: saving natural resources, green purchasing and environmental activism.
